People with disabilities and self advocates have a say in all of the work the SARU does

How?

People with disabilities and self advocates have a say in all of the work the SARU does.

The SARU can:

    - provide support to make self advocacy groups to become stronger

    - help set up new self advocacy groups

    - make and share resources including:

      - equipment e.g. cameras, video cameras, printers, computers etc

      - DVD newsletters and written newsletters in plain English

      - information

      - videos, training kits, booklets, DVD's, audio tapes, planning tools, etc

      - a website

    - bring people and groups together - networking


Other ways the SARU can help

Other ways the SARU can help you include:

    - running training on self advocacy, campaigns, committees, making goals etc

    - advice on funding, training, finding meeting spaces and support in your community etc

    - running forums and conferences

    - video conferencing

    - a travelling self advocacy road show

Helping self advocacy groups:

    - we can come and visit your group and you can tell us about:

      - what you do

      - what you want to do
      - and what help you need to do it

    - we can help you write a self advocacy plan

    - we can help you find resources, equipment or support you may need

    - you can come to our forums and conferences

    - you can help us plan the forums and conferences

    - you can have a say in the work the SARU does

    - we can help you meet other self advocates, self advocacy and community groups

Starting or joining a self advocacy group:

    - If you want to find out where your nearest self advocacy group is call the SARU

    - It is also the job of the SARU to help new self advocacy groups to start
